Long distance effects and strangeness in the nucleon

چکیده
We discuss the calculation of the strange magnetic radius of the proton in chiral perturbation theory. In particular we investigate the low energy component of the loop integrals involving kaons. We separate the chiral calculation into a low energy part and a high energy component through use of a momentum space separation scale. This separation shows that most of the chiral calculation comes from high energies where the effective field theory treatment is not valid. The resulting low energy prediction is in better agreement with dispersive treatments. Finally, we briefly discuss magnetic moments and show how our techniques can help resolve an old puzzle in understanding the magnetic moments of the proton and Σ.

Mesons and the Structure of Nucleons *
The role of mesons, particularly the pion, in the structure of nucleons is reviewed and investigated. Since quark-antiquark pairs are likely to " transform " into mesons at large distances, mesons are expected to contribute to nucleon structure. Their effects on the Gottfried sum rule, on the strangeness content of the nucleon, and on the spin of the nucleon are discussed.

The subject of the strangeness content of the nucleon and nuclei has been one of the important issues in hadron and nuclear physics [1]. Production of φ meson from nucleon target has been suggested as a sensitive probe to study the strangeness content of the nucleon. Because of the ideal mixing with ω, φ meson is nearly a pure ss̄ state and its direct coupling to the nucleon must be suppressed b...

We report on recent lattice QCD calculations of the strangeness magnetic moment of the nucleon and the nucleon electromagnetic form factors, when we allow the electromagnetic current to connect to quark loops as well as to the valence quarks. Our result for the strangeness magnetic moment is G s M (0) = −0.36 ± 0.20. The sea contributions from the u and d quarks are about 80% larger. However, t...

There are several different experimental indications, such as the pion-nucleon Σ term and polarized deep-inelastic scattering, which suggest that the nucleon wave function contains a hidden ss̄ component. This is expected in chiral soliton models, which also predicted the existence of new exotic baryons that may recently have been observed. Another hint of hidden strangeness in the nucleon is pr...
متن کاملNucleon electromagnetic form factors
Elastic electromagnetic nucleon form factors have long provided vital information about the structure and composition of these most basic elements of nuclear physics. The form factors are a measurable and physical manifestation of the nature of the nucleons’ constituents and the dynamics that binds them together. Accurate form factor data obtained in recent years using modern experimental facil...
